One day in January 2003, I came home and announced to my future wife Natalie that I had quit my job.
A couple of months earlier we had visited California for a friend’s wedding and come across a business called Netflix that allowed customers to rent DVDs online and have them delivered through the post. I thought “Wow! What a great idea – I bet this would go gangbusters in Australia!” In an entrepreneurial seizure (knowing nothing about web development at the time), I quit my job, ordered $1000 worth of books on amazon.com and got busy.
Twelve months later, I negotiated the sale of the fledgling business to one of the largest video chains in the country. For the first time in my life I had some money to invest, but no idea what to do with it!
A chance encounter with a personal finance book in a local bookstore changed the course of my professional life. William Bernstein’s “The Intelligent Asset Allocator” opened my eyes to a whole new world of economics, finance and investing – a new passion was ignited and I set about changing career.
To establish my credentials in this new domain I earned the world-renown Chartered Financial Analyst designation.
I have worked as an equity research analyst, developed economic models to optimize pricing and designed financial software in a range of settings including capital budgeting, working capital management and financial consolidation. I continue to design and develop products for investing and retirement planning used in our practice.
With our unique heritage, Asset Science delivers a new level of service that integrates a holistic financial planning approach with the investment skills, knowledge and technology previously only available to large institutional clients.
“The CFA designation has become the gold standard of professional credentials within the global investment community.”
